Waqar Younis Warns Pakistan Over Babar Azam’s Captaincy

9 News HD: Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has shared worries about Babar Azam taking the captaincy. He said Babar is a talented and technically strong batter but the pressure of being a leader might harm his performance.
Speaking at an event Waqar Younis said Babar puts much pressure on himself when he is asked to lead Pakistan. He explained that Babar’s performances have not been as good when he has also had to handle the job of being captain.
Waqar Younis also said that Pakistan could lose the best from Babar as a player if much responsibility is given to him. He said a captain needs support from the team and must be able to trust his players during tough times.
Babar Azam came back as Pakistan’s Test captain after Shan Masood was taken out of the role following Pakistan’s 2-0 Test series defeat against Bangladesh. His return to the captaincy happened during the tour of the West Indies, where Pakistan had a draw in the two-match series.
Babar later was not in the Test against England because of an injury. He came back for the two matches but Pakistan lost both games as England won the series 3-0.
Waqar Younis’ statements have now brought focus on Babar Azam’s captaincy and his place in Pakistan cricket. His words are expected to add to the conversation, about whether being a leader affects Babar’s batting performances.
