Tarar Says Pakistan Won’t Allow India to Weaponise Water

9 News HD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said Pakistan believes in peace but will not allow India to use water as a weapon.
Speaking at the launch of a special report on the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in Islamabad, Tarar said Pakistan’s position on the water-sharing agreement remains clear. He said the treaty cannot be changed, cancelled or put on hold through a decision by one side alone.
Tarar said Pakistan has taken the issue to the international community through diplomatic channels. He also referred to a recent decision by the Court of Arbitration, saying it supports Pakistan’s position that the treaty cannot be changed through unilateral action.
The minister said the Indus Waters Treaty is important not only for Pakistan and India but also for peace and stability in the region. He warned that using water as a political tool could create problems for other countries that depend on agreements for sharing rivers and water resources.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns over India’s decision to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. Islamabad says the agreement provides a legal framework for sharing the waters of the Indus river system.
Tarar said Pakistan will continue to engage with the international community and defend its water interests through diplomatic and legal means. He added that Pakistan’s approach remains focused on peace, while protecting what it considers its rights under the treaty.
