9 News HD: Islamabad authorities have moved against the sale of medicines without a proper licence at clinics, pharmacies and medical stores in the capital. Doctors who are running a pharmacy or medical store have been told to get a valid Drug Sale Licence to continue selling medicines.

The action follows a recent court decision that clarified the rules for doctors selling medicines. Under the decision, a registered doctor can prescribe and provide medicines to their own patients, but cannot run a commercial medical store without the required licence.

The health authorities have also directed unlicensed pharmacies and medical stores to apply for the required licence. Medicine distributors have been told not to supply medicines to outlets that do not have a valid licence.

However, medicines kept by doctors at their clinics for their own patients will remain exempt from the licensing requirement, as long as the clinic is not being used as a commercial pharmacy or medical store.

The move is aimed at making medicine sales safer and ensuring that drug outlets follow the rules. The authorities are also expected to take legal action against outlets that continue selling medicines without the required licence.

The latest decision gives patients clearer protection and puts more responsibility on doctors, pharmacies and medicine suppliers to follow the rules when selling medicines in Islamabad.
