9 News HD: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Islamabad for a three-day official visit to Pakistan from October 6 to 8.

Guterres is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During his stay, he is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The UN chief will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He is scheduled to attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), where Pakistan’s work on disaster preparedness and early warning systems will be highlighted.

Regional and international developments are also expected to be discussed during his meetings with Pakistani officials. The visit will provide an opportunity to review Pakistan’s cooperation with the United Nations and its role in supporting peace and international security.

Guterres’s visit comes as his term as UN secretary-general is set to end later this year. His visit is also expected to highlight Pakistan’s long-standing support for the United Nations and its efforts to promote dialogue and peace.
